professional commercial female voice actor
Commercial voiceover work is about selling something - a product, an idea, a service etc.
When we voice commercials, we actors must be able to match our sound and energy to that of the concept that’s being sold.
The Tone
Is the product young, bright and fun? High energy and amusing? or is it smooth and luxurious? A clear brief about the effect you’re trying to generate will really help the actor to get under the skin of the read and create exactly the tone and feel that you’re reaching for in order to connect with your target audience. Relatability is what we are trying to create here. Having a pre-read talk through what we’re trying to create is important too.
The Style
The style of commercials changes a lot over time. We’ve moved away from the ‘sell and tell’ style where the announcer would ‘proclaim’ the benefits of a product. Now it’s all about informality and casual reads that are very ‘human’ and ‘real’ in order to reach the target demographic. Understand who we’re trying to reach will really change the energy with which we approach a script.
The Music
Hearing the music that will lie behind the voice will really inform the delivery and help to catch the mood. Voicing to video helps the voice actor to elevate the voice to fit in with the sound and visuals to capture just the right volume and energy, so when it’s all edited together - it sounds just right!
